Markets operate in two distinct stages: continuous intraday trading and a massive final payout.
Phase 1 (The Trading Floor): From market open until the event concludes, the market is fully liquid. You can buy outcome shares (like "S&P 500 = 5000") and sell them early for a cash profit if other traders push the price up.
Phase 2 (The Settlement Vault): When the event ends, trading freezes. The entire pool of money is divided among the winning shares. If you hold through the freeze, you get your pro-rata cut of the vault.

As a trader, you benefit from late money entering the pool regardless of where it goes. Every trade inflates the final settlement vault, growing the eventual payout for winning tickets.
